Every day I’m video editing (to the melody of “Party Rock Anthem”). A lot of the work, being a musician and songwriter, is about external communications, mainly in form of videos. I enjoy doing it, because it’s mostly connected to music. And this particular video I worked on today has been sitting in my top drawer for a while. Looking forward to releasing it soon.

A humbling day of accounting: back in 2020 I got some financial help from the state due to COVID. The bookkeeping still hasn’t been finalised. It takes a while to dig back into that. Highlight of the day was attending a protest of PETA for an animal free agriculture.

Today I had a meeting of the Zukunftswerkstatt (future workshop) of the Deutscher Musikrat (German Music Council). We’re a handful of young people somehow connected with music. Mostly we’re from organisation, like I from the Deutscher Komponist:innenverband (German Composers and Songwriters Association). We talk about topics in the musical landscape which are particularly relevant for young people to put them on the agenda of the German Music Council.

Met the Australian Greek drummer Michael Christofaris for lunch. We talked about booking, sessions and professionality. It’s always great to catch up with people who I don’t see regularly. Afterwards I had a meeting with a music publisher to sound out if we could work together in future. That was very exciting, as I’ve been thinking about signing with a publisher for a couple of years now.

Since I was in Cologne end of April, I’ve gotten used to write and film three mini songs in one go. Three hours of work and the basis of a week’s social media content is finished. That’s why I look very similar in the videos spread out over seven days.

Eurovision Song Contest – Watch Party. I’ve never been into the ESC, but I’m getting to know more and more people who have participated, written songs for it or were managing participating acts. It’s an interesting part of European music culture. The songs may be cheesy and cheap – but it’s clearly about more than the music. It was great to watch it with friends. My favourites Remember Monday (UK) and Lucio Corsi (Italy) didn’t make the top three.

Cleaned and tidied Schmerbachs Keller to how it looked before the show. Then back to Berlin.
15. March 2025
The day of the concert: after a hearty lunch, off to Schmerbachs Keller for the final setup and soundcheck. We’re a bit tight for time, but we make it work. We, meaning besides me Johanna at the doors and Katharina and Lukas behind the bar. Over 85 people turn up and it’s a great show. The new songs, one of which I play for the very first time live, go down well. Everybody sings and claps along. The packing up flies by in the reverie of the concert.

For the whole day, I prepared tomorrow’s concert in Schmerbachs Keller in Heiligenstadt. I got the drinks, set up the stage and the room, organised the sound and lighting equipment. The presales have ended and it’s looking to be a great concert. Can’t wait.

Last practise for Saturday’s concert at the Schmerbachs Keller in Heiligenstadt. I’ve changed the setlist quite a bit and I’ll be playing five new songs. Surely, I’ll remember all the lyrics. I think, it’s going to be great.

Today I had a songwriting session with Dom Friquot. Dom is a Canadian songwriter, singer, musician, member of several bands (mostly “Flora Falls” and “Folk Road Show”). We started writing a song, which is super groovy and so fun to sing. Maybe it goes on my new album.

After a longer practise session I had a meeting with the GEMA delegates in the evening. We talked about motions we want to put forward at the member’s meeting in May. Let’s see if they go through.

Back from a lovely holiday on Gran Canaria. I wrote “Turn of Tides or Where the Waves Come From” on Tenerife over three years ago. So it felt inspiring to be near, to swim in the ocean and breath the mountain air.

I’m very much looking forward to be playing my seventh concert at Schmerbachs Keller in Heiligenstadt on Saturday, 15th March 2025. It’s always a special one for me, because I organise everything from ticket sales to drinks and then the actual concert. Just talked to Daniel Wiegand of the Thüringer Allgemeine about this year’s show. Get tickets here.

My first diary entry. I saw this format a while ago on a bands website and really loved going through their daily thoughts and what they did. Reading only text on a website that slows one down and it’s concentrates on the essential, leaving space for imagination. So, here we are. Thanks for reading.
